Time to go coastal!

I live in Littlehampton, and as such I live by the coast. In fact, I’m probably less than a mile away from Littlehampton seafront. Do I make the most of living this close to the sea? Absolutely not, which is a shame really as you get a great sense of being ‘free’ when you go to the beach.
When I have friends over to stay, they often ask whether we go to the beach on a regular basis. Sadly the answer to that is 'not very often at all'. I have often thought about this long and hard about why this is, and I have come to this conclusion. When you have something that is right on your doorstep, you tend to take it for granted and very rarely make the most of what you have. I guess you could call it laziness! Most people I know would love to live as close to the sea as I do, so I feel as though I need to make more of my seaside surroundings.
I plan on overcoming this aversion from the beach by making regular visits to Littlehampton seafront, as well as the many other miles of coast I have easy access to. Bizarrely though, I’m not planning on going to Littlehampton seafront as my first port of call. Instead, I’m going to Selsey Bill, which is probably 20 miles or so to the west of where I live.
Why Selsey I hear you ask? Well because it has an amazing structure right on the seafront in the form of the RNLI Lifeboat Station; I firmly believe will make for some exciting images…that’s the plan anyway! I’ve checked the weather for tomorrow and it’s looking good as the forecast is for sunny intervals, which hopefully means there will be some clouds around to help add some interest in the sky. Also, high tide is it a photography friendly time of 18:25 - excellent.
So all the right ingredients are there, it’s just a case of pulling them all together and making the most of them!
Providing my Selesey photography session goes well, I'll be posting the images up for all to see a few days afterwards.

Time for an upgrade!

So, I’ve had my Nikon D80 since the summer of 2008 and it has served me well; it was my first DSLR and has accompanied me on my photography learning curve. However, in recent weeks I have had my head turned by a newer model, in the shape of the Nikon D7000.
As with most things, technology changes at a rapid pace and the world of photography is certainly no different. The D80 was first released in September 2006, and at the time was brimming with the latest innovations and boasted a 10.2mp sensor, an 11-point auto-focus system and a 2.5” hi-res 230,000 dot LCD screen.
Fast-forward 4 years to September 2010 and the release of the D7000, and you’ll be holding a magnesium-alloy body with a 16.2mp sensor, 39-point auto-focus system, 3” hi-res 921,000 dot LCD screen, Live View, 1080p video capture and a nifty electronic virtual horizon for those all important landscapes shots!
Quite an improvement, I’m sure you’ll agree.
But can I justify upgrading to a camera that costs the best part of a thousand pounds? More importantly, can I justify that expenditure to my fiancé?! Fortunately the answer to both of those questions is ‘yes’!
Providing everything goes to plan, I hope to be the proud owner of a D7000 by early June! Once I do get my hands on one, be sure to come back and check out my first impressions.
In the mean time, check back soon as I’ll be updating the galleries with new material.

New website launched!

Producing a website to showcase my photos has always been an aspiration of mine, but something had always held me back. I'd always considered such a task to be complicated, time consuming and requiring some understanding of web design. That proved not to be the case when I discovered Photium; it really couldn't have been easier! So here it is for the whole world to see...
'DF Photos'
As this is all new to me, please bear with me if you experience any problems or quirks; if you do spot something, please get in contact with me and I'll get it sorted. It would also be really good if you could give me feedback on the site - does it look good? Is it easy to navigate? Did you find what you were looking for? Do you like the portfolios? Basically I want you to give it to me straight! That way I know where things need to improve, and ultimately that will benefit the visitors to this site - and that is what it is all about - ensuring visitors enjoy their stay here.
Being a new site, the content will build up over time and the site will evolve as well. In the meantime, I hope you like what you find in here!
Have fun!!!
