Time to go coastal!

10th May 2011
I live in Littlehampton, and as such I live by the coast. In fact, I’m probably less than a mile away from Littlehampton seafront. Do I make the most of living this close to the sea? Absolutely not, which is a shame really as you get a great sense of being ‘free’ when you go to the beach.

When I have friends over to stay, they often ask whether we go to the beach on a regular basis. Sadly the answer to that is 'not very often at all'. I have often thought about this long and hard about why this is, and I have come to this conclusion. When you have something that is right on your doorstep, you tend to take it for granted and very rarely make the most of what you have. I guess you could call it laziness! Most people I know would love to live as close to the sea as I do, so I feel as though I need to make more of my seaside surroundings.

I plan on overcoming this aversion from the beach by making regular visits to Littlehampton seafront, as well as the many other miles of coast I have easy access to. Bizarrely though, I’m not planning on going to Littlehampton seafront as my first port of call. Instead, I’m going to Selsey Bill, which is probably 20 miles or so to the west of where I live.

Why Selsey I hear you ask? Well because it has an amazing structure right on the seafront in the form of the RNLI Lifeboat Station; I firmly believe will make for some exciting images…that’s the plan anyway! I’ve checked the weather for tomorrow and it’s looking good as the forecast is for sunny intervals, which hopefully means there will be some clouds around to help add some interest in the sky. Also, high tide is it a photography friendly time of 18:25 - excellent.

So all the right ingredients are there, it’s just a case of pulling them all together and making the most of them!

Providing my Selesey photography session goes well, I'll be posting the images up for all to see a few days afterwards.
